They can’t figure out how to balance this commitment to work with a deep need to take a breath, to slow down, to look after themselves a bit.

They tell me that they know they need to ‘do all the wellbeing stuff’, but the days run away from them. Before they know it, the clock says 17:30 and they feel shattered as they look at their inbox and wonder what the hell they actually achieved in their day.

They’ve tried the mindfulness apps, the productivity hacks and the morning routines - but it all just seems like another thing to add to the To Do list. And it’s *always* the thing to de-prioritise.

I’ll be totally honest…

I know this scenario oh-so well because I’ve been there. I was there for years

I was racing my way through every work day, only to end up feeling f*cking frazzled by Friday. It didn’t matter if I changed jobs, careers, sectors, cities - I always ended up this way.


Then it clicked.

There wasn’t a quick-fix solution to changing my work life.


I had to shift the way I think about work, the way I do my work, the way I feel about work.

And I had to start being a whole lot nicer to myself about my work.

I started to take breaks, so I was better able to reset, re-focus and regulate my mood.

I started to practice self-compassion, so I was calmer and more resilient even on my busiest days.

I started to get clear on what mattered to me, so I stopped wasting my precious time and energy.

I started to celebrate my wins and talents, so other people no longer defined my self-worth.

I started being my own internal cheerleader, so I didn’t fear feedback or making a mistake.

I started to value myself beyond work, so it became easier to switch off, log off and enjoy life.

I started to enjoy my job a lot more, so I was happier and more fun to be around.

Since my work life has changed - everything else in my life is better.

Less time worrying and complaining about work means way more time for the joyous things that matter in life - like running about with my little boy, laughing with my partner and catching up with my amazing friends.
